Ant-Man To Kick Start Marvel Movieverse Phase 3!!!

Disney Studios have issued a press release updating the movie-going public about “Iron Man 3” and “Thor: The Dark World.” Both films will be released next year in 3D on May 1 for ol’ Shell Head and November 8 for His Mightiness.

But within the depths of said press release another release date has been scheduled. On November 6 2015, Marvel has lined up the release of the much talked about and long gestating “Ant-Man” project. This would place “Ant-Man” as the first movie scheduled after “Avengers 2” (May 1 2015) so can we assume that “Ant-Man” will launch phase 3 of the Marvel Movieverse?

For those of you that don’t know, Ant-Man was an original Avenger in the comic book in the early 1960s. He has the ability to shrink and/or grow himself to non-human sizes and he also has the ability to mentally communicate with ants via his stupid looking helmet. Apart from his helmet, I think Ant-Man is super cool and don’t understand why people think talking to ants is a bogus super power.

There have been 3 people in the Ant-Man costume over the years, but the current Ant-Man, Eric O’Grady, is a jerk and the less said about him the better.  The two you really want to know about are Henry “Hank” Pym and Scott Lang. Apparently the movie adaptation will feature BOTH incarnations of Ant-Man. Hank Pym in a ‘60s flashback and Scott Lang as the present day Ant-Man.

“Ant-Man” is being directed by the genius that is Edgar Wright, who is currently filming the follow up to “Shaun Of The Dead” and  “Hot Fuzz,” entitled “The World’s End” with his usual gang of idiots/collaborators Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

Stan Lee Confirms Doctor Strange, Black Panther and The Inhumans Movies are Coming!!!

As Disney is busy with its acquisition of Star Wars and Lucasfilm, their other studio is busy developing even more movies. Marvel Studios is in the process of working on Phase 2 of their cinematic universe and more.

Phase 2 is already a full slate with “Iron Man 3” and “Thor: The Dark World” coming in 2013, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” in 2014 and “The Avengers 2” in 2015. Not to mention “Ant-Man” is looking to be the start of Phase 3 when it comes out in 2015. But Marvel isn't stopping there and iconic superhero creator Stan Lee has confirmed that there’s more coming from Marvel, in a recent interview.

“Oh they are all being made into movies! I can tell you there will definitely be a Dr. Strange movie! They are working on Ant-Man, which requires really small cameras! Black Panther is being developed, one of my favorites! The Inhumans! All the heroes will eventually be made into movies.”

When and how Doctor Strange, Black Panther and The Inhumans will be integrated into the Marvel cinematic universe remains to be seen but all the past rumors about Doctor Strange and Black Panther being made into solo movies seem to be confirmed, and is encouraging.

Until Marvel confirms anything, it's really just one guy talking since Lee isn't even really a part of the movie process with the exception of meeting with a director or actor here and there. Whichever way you look at this information, it sounds like Marvel is hard at work and already looking past Phase 2 and at Phase 3. Bring it on!

Marvel Superhero Babies

I am a sucker for cute art. Skottie Young is one of my favorite comic artists, and his variant covers for Marvel comic books showing superheroes as babies absolutely kill me. It’s hilarious to see tiny versions of Galactus, Deadpool, the X-Men, and more. I especially love the Loki cat pictured above. These covers make my day better.

Look at the rest of the adorable images below.

Thanos Confirmed as Villain in Avengers 2!!!

Those who stuck around during “The Avengers” end credits know that the mad Titan known as Thanos was behind the Chitauri’s invasion of Earth, and many suspected that he would be “The Avengers 2” villain.

Well Jim Starlin, the creator of Thanos, recently confirmed to Cosmic Book News that not only will the character feature in The Avengers sequel, the villain is also set to appear in the “Guardians of the Galaxy” movie.

The fact that we are even getting a “Guardians of the Galaxy” film is a bit of a shock. Before Marvel announced the film, many assumed that a more well known hero like Iron Fist, Dr. Strange or Black Panther would be getting a film adaptation first. Prior to the announcement of the film, few other than hardcore comic book fans had ever even heard of the Guardians of the Galaxy, a team which features an assortment of strange characters that include Drax the Destroyer and Rocket Raccoon.

Marvel has spent the past 4 years connecting each of their movies and making them part of the same universe, and it looks like that will continue with Phase 2. With “Guardians of the Galaxy” set in space it would make sense for them to come across Thanos first. In the comics Thanos gets hold of the Infinity Gauntlet (a glove that grants its wearer unlimited power) and wipes out half the universe. The Guardians of the Galaxy then band together to defeat him.

There was also a retelling which involved The Avengers fighting Thanos. There’s a clear connection here, and given that the Infinity Gauntlet was already hinted to be in Odin’s Vault in “Thor,” we can see where Marvel might be heading. We can probably expect clues to pop up in “Iron Man 3,” “Thor: The Dark World” and “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” followed by the big reveal in “Guardians of the Galaxy” in August 2014.
